Foundation Stage

Reception Wow! What a fantastic year the Reception children have had. We have all been so proud of how far they have come when we think back to those first few weeks. Some of our highlights have been:

The Caterpillars

We were so lucky to be able to watch the caterpillars grow and develop as part of our topic on Minibeasts. Watching the children’s faces as we released the butterflies into our sensory garden was magical! Sherwood Pines The children’s first ever trip out was a great success and their behaviour was fantastic; they were a credit to our school! They experienced pond-dipping as well as hunting the Gruffalo. However, for many of them, their favourite part was either eating their lunch or travelling on the double decker bus. At least they’re easy to please!

Potion Making

As part of our topic on Julia Donaldson, we read Room on the Broom and decided to make our own potions. First we decided on what we wanted our spell to do and then wrote a list of ingredients. Next we worked with a partner to come up with a spell to say – the children had some very imaginative ideas! Finally, they collected things from our outside area and mixed them in a cup. Some magic stars and glitter were added and before you could say ‘Abracadabra’ the children were turning the teachers into frogs, lizards and all sorts!

Maple and Willow, you truly have been a pleasure to teach and we will miss you very much! Good luck in your new classes! The Foundation team
