What We've Been Doing - Summer Term

Friday 17th May

We are really enjoying reading books by the author Julia Donaldson - thank you to all those children who have brought in books from home too - we didn't know she had written so many books.

This week's story was 'Room on the Broom'. We have all written our own recipes for a spell & on Friday we went outside & combined them altogether in a big cauldron, we cast our spell & do you know what?! A beautiful broomstick appeared behind one of the big trees in the playground! How amazing was that? Mrs Barbuti has been given the broomstick for safe-keeping but we all managed to have a ride on it first! (even Mrs Marshall!). If you don't believe us - look in Mrs Barbuti's office & you will see it with your own eyes!

Maple & Willow now have 'Buddy Reading' sessions with children in Beech & Cedar classes on Friday afternoon. It's been great to make some new friends & share stories with them. We have also been getting to know Mrs Hindmarsh & Mrs Atwood in preparation for when the children move up into Year 1. They come into our classes on Friday morning to read us a story.

Tuesday 23rd April

Welcome back to the start of our Summer term!

This term in F2 we are looking at the author Julia Donaldson and we will be reading a selection of her books over the term. Some of the children have already brought books in from home. Thank You! We started our topic off with an exciting time in our wildlife area - where we spotted all kinds of footprints and we used our detective skills to try and find out who they could belong to. We then read the story of the Gruffalo and we think that he must have been to our school because there were some enormous footprints that we spotted in the mud!

We have turned our role play area into a Lotions & Potions centre. The children are enjoying making up their own spells. So beware! You may be turned into a frog if you go into Willow class!

In Maths we have been focusing on Subtraction. We looked at the different strategies we have learnt and can use: from objects, numicon, jottings to counting back on a number-line.

The children continue to have their daily phonics lesson and their skills are developing well. Keep up the practice at home!

Photos will follow shortly.
