What We've Been Doing - Autumn Term

Friday 7th December

Christmas has arrived in f2! Our classrooms look festive and sparkly. We enjoyed the tree assembly and have all put our decorations on the tree in the hall.

In literacy we have read the Christmas story and written a wish list for Santa.
Look out for the Elf on the Shelf who lives in willow class. He's been getting up to all sorts of mischief. We've taken photographs to send to Santa. I wonder what he will do this week?
We have all been working hard on practising for our performance on Thursday and are looking forward to seeing you all then.
Photos will be added shortly.

Friday 30th November

We have had a busy week celebrating birthdays as part of our topic on ‘Festivals and Celebrations’. The children have had the opportunity to take part in birthday role play activities as well as make and write cards to their friends and families.

In Maths, we have been focusing on recognising and ordering numbers. The children have been encouraged to talk about what number comes next and answer questions such as ‘How do you know’?

All children have made their own tree decoration to add to the school Christmas Tree during a special assembly on Monday. There has been plenty of glitter sprinkled around the rooms as well as on the decorations! We are well on the way with practising our ‘Christmas Alphabet’, ready for the big performance (Thursday 13th December at 2pm). Thank you for all your support with providing costumes, where needed.

Photos will be added shortly.

Friday 23rd November

This week Willow & Maple have been learning all about Weddings. We enjoyed reading a book called 'The Scarecrow's Wedding' and we wrote lists & invitations for our very own wedding! This was held in the Hall on Friday afternoon. We all played a part, there was bell ringing, confetti throwing, various brides, grooms, bridesmaids & best men. After the wedding we had a party to celebrate - great fun was had by all.

In Maths we have been using the balance scales & have been ordering objects from the lightest to the heaviest. In PE we continue to practice our ball skills - we have got much better at throwing & catching.

Our festival this week was Divali - the Hindu Festival of Light. We made Diva lamps out of clay & decorated them with colourful sequins. We enjoyed listening to the story of Rama & Sita & acted it out using character masks. Sapphire brought in some beautiful Indian clothes for us to see & she told us all about the celebrations she had with her family. It was very interesting.

On Friday we dressed up for Children in Need Day. We brought in cakes to sell & enjoyed eating them in the afternoon! We learned about all the good work this charity does for children who are less fortunate than ourselves. We are proud that we all helped to raise some more for this worthy cause.

Friday 9th November

We have had a great start to the new term and really enjoyed learning about Bonfire Night. We have used a paint program to draw firework pictures on the computer and then had to use our phonics to write some ‘noisy’ words to label the pictures, e.g. bang, pop!

In Maths, we have been counting the number of objects in two groups to find the total. We used counters or jottings to help us work out the problems, using the context of different coloured fireworks.

Friday 19th October

We've had an exciting week in willow and maple classes as we have been learning all about dinosaurs! We read a story about a boy called Harry who took a bucketful of dinosaurs to school on his first day. If you pop into our classrooms you will see we've got our own collection of dinosaurs.

In maths we have been focusing on adding one more to a number or a set of objects and in phonics we have been practising our blending skills so we can begin to read with fluency.
We are all becoming expert photographers and can use the iPad to take pictures, even zooming in and out. We have enjoyed looking in the gallery at everyone's pictures. Here are a selection of the children's photographs!

We read a book called: A huge bag of worries and thought about some of the worries we might have and what we could do to make ourselves feel better.
In our Maths sessions we have been making repeating patterns using paints, Lego and even our own bodies!

Friday 5th October

In preparation for the arrival of the brick, Willow and Maple classes have been thinking about the meaning of Remembrance Day. We used corks and acrylic paint to print our design onto the bricks. We think it will be really exciting seeing everyone's bricks when they are laid on the new housing estate.

Friday 28th September

This week in maths we have been talking and learning about size. We have ordered objects from around the classroom by size. We have also been learning about size through our book of the week "Titch" by Pat Hutchins. This book is about a boy who compares the sizes of his possessions to those of his brother and sister.

The children have really enjoyed singing some new songs about autumn.

Friday 21st September

In Willow, we have been busy settling into our new classroom and having fun exploring the different learning areas such as role play corner, construction carpet, and writing and creative areas. In our outside area, we have been working together to build dens and put on musical shows!

As part of our topic ‘All About Me’ we painted self-portraits and talked about what makes us special. We have brought in photos of when we were babies to share with our friends and talk about how we have changed. We had great fun guessing who the photos belonged to!
